Paul McGuigan
DIRECTOR
Paul McGuigan was born in Bellshill, Scotland. Starting out as a successful photographer in Glasgow, McGuigan then branched into directing hard-hitting documentaries and short films for television.
McGuigan, in 2000 brought us the controversial GANGSTER NO. 1, the extremely violent and provocative London crime story, starring Malcolm McDowell and Paul Bettany.
THE RECKONING, was McGuigan’s third film. A medieval murder mystery focusing on the exploits of a monk and a traveling band of actors starred Willem Dafoe, Paul Bettany and Brian Cox.
Wicker Park (2004), starring Josh Hartnett and Diane Kruger’s, saw McGuigan being nominated for the Best Director award at the Montreal Film Festival.
In 2005, McGuigan traveled to New Orleans to direct the pilot for FX’s THIEF.
McGuigan’s helmed 2006’s star-studded LUCK NUMBER SLEVIN, the story of two rival New York gangsters, starring Josh Hartnett, Morgan Freeman, Sir Ben Kingsley and Lucy Lui. “Slevin” won him international acclaim as well as many awards, including Best Film, the Audience Award and Best Actor at the Milan Film Festival.
Feb 2009 saw the release of McGuigan’s new movie PUSH, staring Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Djimon Hounsou and Camilla Belle.
In-between making films McGuigan has directed music videos for SNOW PATROL and commercials for clients as diverse as BBC RADIO 1 and NISSAN/EA GAMES
