HAK

“Hakim A. Khalfani”

writer / director/ producer

Hakim A. Khalfani began his journey into filmmaking at the age of seven.  As a child, Hakim would pay for one movie, and watch several more for free, with his friends, siblings, and cousins.  After watching the movies, Hakim would convince everyone to participate in reenacting the movies watched.

Hakim attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ga, where he majored in Finance.  Shortly after graduation, Hakim worked as a Sr. Financial Analyst, for entertainment mogul Barry Diller, and his many entertainment companies.  While working for USA Networks, as a Sr. Financial Analyst, Hakim found his passion for writing and directing.  Hakim would eventually leave the financial tier of entertainment, to become a music video production assistant.  Hakim worked as an assistant on several music videos until he met Martin Glover, brother of Danny Glover.  Martin hired Hakim to work as a video assist operator on the filming of “Coach Carter,” which began the snowballing of a successful film career.

As a Video Assist Operator, Hak worked with director’s Antoine Fuqua, Thomas Carter, and Vondie-Curtis Hall, giving Hak valuable on set experience and confidence to begin his writing and directing career.

While filming a hip-hop documentary of  Def Jam rap artist Dro, HAK is introduced to Russell Simmons.   Shortly after meeting Russell Simmons, Russell hired Hak to direct his first video for the “Waist Deep” Soundtrack.   Hak’s success on this music video, secured him the job to write, direct, and produce the feature film, “4 Life, starring Elise Neal, Wood Harris, Page Kennedy, and JD Williams.”

Since the release of “4 Life”, Hak became a new forthright and talented filmmaker on the rise., directing major network music videos for Sony Records, Atlantic, Brothers, and Def Jam Recordings.  In 2010, Hak directed a masterful  script he wrote entitled, “Forgiveness”, a faith based film starring Richard T. Jones.
